November is National Home Care and Hospice Month

November 23, 2015

Danville, Va. (November 20, 2015) –– Danville Regional Home Health Services and Legacy Hospice of the Piedmont have been celebrating National Home Care and Hospice month throughout November. This is an exciting time to educate others on the value of home health and hospice, the wonderful benefits both services have to offer and the impact that is made on the community. The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) has deemed this year’s theme “Home Care and Hospice Deliver Freedom”, which could not be more true according to DRMC Home Health and Hospice Market Director, Cynthia Robotti, DNP, RN, APN-C. “Our staff plays a crucial role in the lives of our community members by allowing them to stay in their home environment while receiving quality care”, says Robotti.

Danville Regional Home Health offers nursing and home health aide services, as well as physical, occupational and speech therapy services. Patient Condition Monitoring is also offered to patients with certain chronic diseases such as Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Hypertension and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). This enables patients’ clinical vital signs to be obtained instantly through blue tooth capability by alerting nursing staff through email or text message when adherence parameters are out of range.

Robotti goes on to express that hospice is equally important. “Hospice is a delicate field and one that involves not only the patient, but the patient’s family as well. We hope to use this national observance to educate the community that our hospice professionals and volunteers offer special care to families throughout Danville and Pittsylvania County.” Hospice services are generally provided for those who have six months or less to live and are not actively receiving treatment. Legacy Hospice of the Piedmont also has a Bereavement Program that is not only extended to hospice patients and families but also to the community. “This program helps families through the grievance process and provides them with support for years to come.” The Legacy Hospice of the Piedmont Grief Support Group is an eight week program with the next series beginning on January 5th through February 23rd. To enroll in this program, please call 434-799-5313.

Both Danville Regional Home Health Services and Legacy Hospice of the Piedmont are certified by The Joint Commission and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Medicare and Medicaid cover both programs at 100%, and most private insurances offer a home health and hospice benefit.
