Sovah Health Issues Urgent Request for Blood Donations

September 13, 2018

DANVILLE, VA (September 13, 2018) – Sovah Health is facing a severe blood shortage and is asking for donors to visit the Sovah Blood Donor Center in Danville in advance of potentially severe weather this weekend.

The Center is in need of all blood types; however, O-negative and O-positive blood is in highest demand. During extreme shortages, Sovah Health is able to rely on a backup blood supplier out of South Carolina; however, due to Hurricane Florence the company is unable to deliver blood supplies to our area.

Picture ID is required for donation and donors are encouraged to eat well and hydrate with water before donating. Unlike other donation sites, all donations made to the Sovah Blood Donor Center or its mobile unit stay local to treat patients in the community at Sovah Health.

The Sovah Blood Donor Center is open today September 13 from 8:30-4pm and tomorrow September 14 from 7:30am-3pm. The Center is located at 159 Executive Drive, Suite K in Danville.
