Clinical Research
The “miracle” medications, the most effective
treatments, they all have one thing in common. They
all began with clinical trials at hospitals. The
practice of medicine never stands still. The physicians
at Danville Regional Medical Center are taking the lead
in bringing innovative treatments and promising new
medications to the Dan River Region through clinical
trials.
Clinical trials are sponsored most frequently by pharmaceutical
companies and government agencies, such as the National
Institutes of Health. Danville Regional’s clinical
trial experience is further enhanced with research certified
nurses and investigating physicians committed to improving
patient outcomes. And there is the continuing desire
to meet the needs of our community.
How do patients benefit from clinical trials?
• Patients have access to new treatments before
they’re widely available
• Patients may receive new medications not yet
on the market
• Patients are closely monitored by a research
team
• Patients receive the expertise of doctors, researchers,
and other health professionals
• Clinical trials are done solely on a voluntary
basis, and require informed patient consent
Danville Regional Medical Center has participated in
trials for orthopedics, cardiac, respiratory, neurology,
vascular, and cancer (pharmaceuticals). For more information
on participation in clinical trials, call the Clinical
Research & Development Department at 434-799-3753.
