FM MISSION

FM RESIDENCY CLINIC MISSION
To love and grow Danville, VA into a healthier community by training residents, serving patients, and providing compassionate, exceptional care

The Family Medicine Residency Program offers residents an excellent education in traditional family medicine.  Our innovative program is the ideal educational experience for those seeking to serve their patients and community in the practice of medicine.

The Sovah Health – Danville FM continuity clinic is located in a brand new, state of the art facility.  This facility boasts 14 exam rooms, including rooms dedicated to procedures, OMM and care of pediatric patients.  Resident work spaces have a beautiful view of the scenic Dan River.

Residents benefit from a robust inpatient medicine teaching experience highlighted with hospitalist and ICU faculty who are passionate about patient care, quality measures and teaching.  In the outpatient setting, residents practice in a continuity care clinic which services much of the surrounding community.  This clinic boasts excellent family medicine preceptors who teach residents about common outpatient conditions, procedures, and high-quality care.  The continuity experience also includes geriatric, pediatric and prenatal care training. Residents also learn how to navigate the complexities of the healthcare system and how to serve both insured and uninsured patient populations that benefit from the residency clinic services.

FM residents complete all rotations on site except for 6 weeks of offsite rotations during their three years of training. First year residents train at the Virginia Commonwealth University in a robust 4-week inpatient pediatrics experience. Second year residents complete a 2-week NICU/Newborn Nursery experience in the Conemaugh Health System in Pennsylvania. Resident housing and travel costs are covered by the program for these rotations. These inpatient rotations in addition to our superb community-based pediatric curriculum allow our residents to graduate confident in their abilities to care for the youngest members of the family.

First-class didactic programming and rotational experiences combine into a curriculum that covers the full spectrum of family medicine in a practical way to prepare for future practice and board exams.  We are proud to train superb family physicians who are dedicated to the communities and patients they serve.
