Medicare Information Made Easy

If you or someone you know participates in Medicare or is nearing retirement age, it is now even easier to access information and have your questions answered about your health care insurance options. The Centers for Medicare at Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that administers Medicare to more than 39 million Americans, has three easy ways to stay up-to-date and learn more about your options with Medicare.

Medicare & You 2008 Handbook
The Medicare & You 2008 handbook provides you with a comprehensive guide to Medicare coverage and options. This booklet, available in both Spanish and English, is updated annually and contains simple explanations about your Medicare benefits, health plan choices, rights and protections as well as provides you with frequently asked questions and answers, a glossary of important terms, and local information. The 2004 Handbook is being mailed this fall and updates the information contained in the 2003 Handbook.

1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227)
1-800-MEDICARE is a toll-free number, which puts you in touch with a trained operator who can answer your Medicare questions. You may also call to order publications, many of which are available in Spanish and Chinese, find out information on upcoming events, and be directed to one-on-one counseling services to help you deal with difficult questions or complicated issues. In addition, if you or someone you know has hearing and/or speech impairments, a dedicated toll-free number can also be accessed at 1-877-486-2048 TTY/TDD.

www.medicare.gov

The official Medicare Web site, www.medicare.gov, is another valuable tool for accessing information about your health care options. Whether you are looking for customized information to compare Medicare+Choice managed care plans or you are looking for Medicare certified nursing homes or you need more information about supplemental insurance plans such as Medigap, www.medicare.gov has it all. In addition, the site features both Spanish and Chinese language sections and a screen reader version option for those with visual impairments.
